Pairing Drama Therapy with therapeutic approaches
There are many therapeutic approaches used in the mental health counseling field. These would include
-
Person-Centred Therapy
-
Mindfulness Approaches/Meditation
-
Systems theory – Family Systems and Internal Family Systems.
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
-
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
-
Psychodynamic and family of origin
-
Motivational Interviewing
Each one offers a pathway to help you gain new skills, insights, and tools for handling either stressful or challenging issues. Drama Therapy pairs extremely well with these approaches because it provides a vehicle through creativity and imagination for you to discover alternative responses to old or new situations.
My Approach
I created The Emotional Gym based on the idea that when we want to work out our body and build stronger muscles, we attend a fitness center. The Emotional Gym is for when we want to build up our inner strength. The sessions are designed to help you strengthen your inner resilience and emotional fortitude in order to shoulder the weight life can sometimes hand you.
Building up your resilience to life's challenges does not have to be a solitary endeavor. At the emotional gym, we will build up your strength, new self-empowered positive behavioral responses and deeper self-awareness.
I am a licensed counseling therapist candidate, (RCT-C) whose specific psychotherapeutic training is anchored in Drama Therapy. This practice engages talk therapy by creatively utilizing one's own method of expression. This innovative approach allows people to explore and talk about the challenges they face, rehearse new ways of responding using their imagination to find solutions. Trauma and information live in the body. Engaging an element of gentle physicality offers the possibility of profound healing.
